Rufus Cosby Orange

May 25, 1925 — July 14, 2014

Rufus Cosby Orange, 89, of Bedford, died Monday, July 14, 2014 in Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born May 25, 1925 in Bedford County, a son of the late William Benjamin Orange and Ora Whitman Orange.

 

Rufus was an U.S. Army veteran and a retiree of Rubatex Corp with 26 years of service.  He loved listening to the Bible and fishing.  He had a knack for working and fixing anything.

 

In addition to his parents, Rufus was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Irene Elizabeth Overstreet Orange; and a son, Rufus D. Orange, Sr.  He is survived by three children, Barbara Bess and her husband, Norm, and Bettysue Orange; a son, Jimmy Lee Orange; a daughter-in-law, Erma M. Orange; a brother, Steve Orange; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

A celebration of Rufus’ life will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 17, 2014 in the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Lafon officiating.  Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
