Rupert B. Tarbell, 85 of Moneta, Virginia, died on March 16, 2015. Born in Earlville, New York.
Rupert is survived by his devoted and loving wife Marolyn, two daughters, Michelle Tarbell Ligon of Kentucky and Roxane Tarbell Biondo of New Jersey, son-in-law, Don Biondo four grandsons, one great grandson and one great granddaughter. He is survived by his sister Barbara Tarbell Stevens and numerous nephews and nieces.
Rupert studied aircraft mechanics at Casey Jones Academy of Aeronautics in Queens, New York. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, where he applied his knowledge of aircraft and became a flight engineer. He married Marolyn C. Thornton, RN in 1953. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Rupert attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey obtaining a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed at Wright Aeronautical, an aircraft engine manufacturing company. Later he was hired by Resistoflex Corporation where he designed and tested components for military aircraft including F14, F15, and F16 fighter jets, as well as, components for the Gemini space program, Apollo moon missions and Space Shuttle missions. He received numerous awards, citations, and letters of appreciation for his outstanding contributions to successful aircraft and aerospace programs. He retired as manager of the Resistoflex Engineering Department 1988. Rupert and Marolyn resided in Rockaway, NJ for 29 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway, serving as an elder for two terms. Rupert also worked sixteen years as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. Rupert and Marolyn spent the first ten years of their retirement on a small farm in central Pennsylvania before moving to Smith Mount Lake, Virginia in 2000. He and his wife are members of the Trinity Ecumenical Parish.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta, Virginia on March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. He will be interned in the Bruce H Cooke Memorial Garden Trinity Ecumenical Parish Columbarium.
