Russell Brown Miear, 79, husband of 60 years to Dorothy “Peggy” Lawrence Miear, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Russell as born October 10, 1937 in Lynchburg, Va. to the late Carlton and Margaret Miear. He dedicated his life to his wife, his family, and most importantly, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He always wore a smile and enjoyed serving others. He was an active deacon at Flat Creek Baptist Church for 21 years and served as the Sunday School Clerk. He retired as the grocery manager from Kroger in 1999 after 40 years of service.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; his daughter, Debbie Dawson and her husband, Gordon; and his son Ray Miear and his wife, Cynthia. He also leaves four grandchildren, Chris Layne, Megan Edwards (Andrew), Afton Fisher (Matthew), and Daniel Miear (Kristy); along with eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Sadie, Mckinley, Khloe, Silas, Logan, Evie, and Hannah, whom he always made sure were having a fun time and had plenty of ice cream.
The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A celebration of Russell’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Earnest G. Carey and Youth Minister Daniel Miear officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
