Russell James Hann, Jr., 85, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017, at his home. He passed from the arms of his loving wife Sandra into the arms of his Lord and Savior after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Born Thursday, April 7, 1932, in Hagerstown, Md., Russell was a son of the late Russell James Hann, Sr. and Helen McCoy Hann. Russell graduated from HHS in 1951 and joined the Navy. He proudly served our country during the Korean War, aboard the USS Turner. Russell worked in the garment industry for 40 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Timberlake Road. He was also a member of American Legion Post #16 for 40 years as well as a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #378 for 50 years.
Along with his wife of 43 years, Russell is survived by three daughters and their mother, Stephanie Henneberger and husband, David, Hagerstown, Md., Lynnette Saunder, of Coral Springs, Fla., Brenda McDonald of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Judy Teeter; two sons, G. Michael Warrenfeltz and wife Barbara, Hagerstown, Md., and Timothy L. Warrenfeltz and wife, Barbara, Fairplay, Md; his grandchildren, Amy and husband, Curtis Staley, and Michael Warrenfeltz and wife, Amy; his great-grandchildren, Chance, Kelsie, Austin, Devon, Colton, and Harley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald V. Hann and wife, Betty Jo Lindsey Hann; a sister, Janice Kunkleman and husband, Charles; and a grandson, Jeremy Miner.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Russell’s caregivers, Patricia Dillard, John Barksdale, Kawana Brown, Tony Beatty, and a special friend Lawn Ranger George for all of their love and support over the years.
A celebration of Russell’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Louis Beckwith, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior the service. Interment will be held at Cedar Lawn in Hagerstown, Md., on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
