Russell "Ray" Miear, 66, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, in his hometown. Born on February 25, 1959, in Lynchburg, Ray remained deeply rooted in the community that shaped his life.
A graduate of Rustburg High School, Ray began a long and dedicated career with Kroger shortly thereafter. Over the course of 45 years, he became a familiar and trusted presence to coworkers and customers alike. His retirement in 2021 marked the end of an era defined by loyalty, hard work, and quiet dependability.
Ray was known for his generous spirit and unwavering support for those around him. A natural helper and fixer, he was always ready to lend a hand or offer guidance—whether it was a household repair or simply being present when someone needed him most. His steady presence brought comfort to many.
Family was at the heart of Ray’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Miear; two sons: Chris Layne (partner Tina), and Daniel Miear (wife Erica), with grandchildren Alyssa Baber (fiance Jon), Sadie Layne, Khloe Miear, Silas Layne, and Hannah Miear. He also leaves behind his sister Deborah "Debbie" Dawson (husband Gordon) and loving mother-in-law Joan Stump.
Ray found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, cherishing every moment shared with them. Whether it was cheering from the sidelines or enjoying quiet afternoons together, these times were among his most treasured. He also loved playing golf with close friend, Lewis Stinnette and his late friend, Bill Keen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Miear and Dorothy "Peggy" Miear.
Ray’s legacy lives on through the love he gave so freely and the countless lives he touched. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
