Russell Delano Royal

Russell Delano Royal departed this life on Thursday March 28^th, 2024, in Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 75. Russell was born on November 11^th, 1948, -to the late Russell B. Royal and Nancy W. Royal. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline R. Jones.

Russell attended Campbell County High School and was a member of the varsity basketball team. After graduating in the class of 1967, he later went on to serve his country in the United States Navy.

At an early age, Russell joined St. James C.M.E. Church prior to becoming a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was an active member who dedicated and shared his voice as a member of the Pleasant Valley Men’s Choir. He also devoted 19 years as co-chair of Pleasant Valley’s Vacation Bible School.

As an active member of his community, Russell will leave his mark as a member and friend of The Clarkstown Men’s Club.

Russell was surrounded by love from his wife, Wanna Mae Royal who preceded him in death and his two daughters, Rochelle Spinner (Richard) of Lynchburg, Va. and Terry Banks, of Lillington, NC.

He leaves to cherish his memories, six grandchildren: Geoffrey Royal (Tiersha), Kristofer Spinner, Jaylen Spinner of Lynchburg, Va. Antonio Wiggins of Orlando, Fl. Camryn and Skylar Smith of Lillington, NC., two great- grandchildren: Tiana and Geofferson Royal, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Russell was also survived by two loving sisters, Tuawana Braxton (Spencer) of San Antonio, TX, and Constance N. Royal, of Lynchburg, VA.

Russell was blessed to have a devoted cousin, Ernest Royal of Sacramento, Ca., and special friends Eugene Tweedy, Robert Booker, and Stewart Hewitt of Lynchburg, Va. who stood by his side until his passing.

Russell was a loving, giving, and caring man of God who was unconditionally loved by his family, church, and friends. Russell will be missed but not forgotten.

 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m.  A visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church from 6-8p.m.
