Ruth Brown Akers

Ruth Brown Akers, 83, of Amherst went to be with her Lord Friday May 11, 2012. She was the devoted wife of the late Clarence Richard Akers.

Ruth was born June 11, 1928 in Clifton Forge a daughter of the late William Connie Brown and Mary Clark Brown. Ruth was a devoted homemaker and Sunday School teacher, she loved the children that she taught. She was a past member of Lone Star Advent Christian Church in Clifton Forge and of Perkins Park Christian Church in Lynchburg, and as her health declined she was blessed by the ministry of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Mother, in her quiet manner, never complained during her illness. We know that she is \"resting peacefully in the arms of her Lord\".

She is survived by her daughter Connie Akers Guthrie and Richard Melton both of Amherst, one sister Virginia Bowling of Rustburg, one sister-in-law Marion Brown of Tacoma Park, MD, and her extended family: Sheila Thacker, Victoria Thacker, David and Gerry West, and her special friends Tina Carroll and Krissi Phillips.

In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a daughter Marsha Gray Akers, her sons Clarence R. Akers and an infant son, a brother Quinton Floyd Brown, three sisters Lois Camden, Phyllis Nelson, and Eleanor Muterspaugh.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday May 14, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights. A Celebration of Ruth\"™s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 15, 2012 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights with the Rev. Jonathan Falwell and the Rev. David Heerspink officiating. Interment will follow at Central Advent Christian Cemetery in Clifton Forge at 3:00 p.m.

(I heard the voice of God within my soul when I lay down to sleep. His voice was peace within my heart and I am his to keep.)
