Ruth Koehn Harrison, 78, of Lynchburg, died Monday, May 18, 2015. She was born December 29, 1936, in Marion, South Dakota, a daughter of the late Tobias Jacob Koehn and Emma Schmidt Koehn.
Ruth earned her first Bachelor of Arts from Grace Bible Institute in 1959, and then graduated from Pierre School of Practical Nursing in 1961. Ruth then received her second B.A. from Sioux Falls College in 1963. She worked as a nurse, a teacher and was a devoted homemaker. She was also a long-time member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church of Marion, SD. An avid and inspirational world traveler, Ruth visited over 40 countries during her lifetime.
Ruth was pre-deceased by her husband, Donald Edwin Harrison, and her daughter-in-law, Dana Harrison.
She is survived by her three children: Johnna Harrison Wood (David), of Birmingham, AL, Ben Harrison, of Lynchburg, VA, and William Harrison (Christina), of Huntington, MA; her six grandchildren: Katie, Kristen, Harrison, Arianna, Aleksander, and Jordyn; and her great-grandson, Henry.
A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will take place in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 20th, 2015, with Pastor Jonathon Falwell officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 19th at Tharp Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Schartner Cemetery in Marion, South Dakota, on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 11:00AM.
