Ryan Patterson Webb

Ryan Patterson Webb entered the presence of our Lord on August 7, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Ryan was born on February 6, 1979, in Lynchburg, VA. He graduated from EC Glass High School and the University of Virginia, where he ran for both the UVA Cross Country & Track teams all four years of his collegiate career. Ryan earned his doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where he then began his professional career in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. Ryan later returned with his family to Lynchburg to join the practice of Rehabilitation Associates of Central VA, serving the community of Amherst, where he became renowned not only for his skill but, moreover, for his warmth, gentleness, and caring towards everyone he encountered. Ryan is survived by his beloved wife Eleanor Tarkington Webb and their children, Richard McCann Webb, Charles Tarkington Webb, and Elizabeth Broughton Webb; his parents, Elizabeth and Jay Webb; his brothers Adam Webb (Jen) and Ethan Webb; Aunt Kay Myers, Aunt Laura McCann (Doug); nieces Virginia and Anne Page Webb; and nephews Logan and Sawyer Webb. Over the course of his and Eleanor’s 20-year marriage and a courtship which began in the halls of E.C. Glass High School, Ryan came to be treasured by his mother-in-law Susan Tarkington Pettyjohn (Tom); sister-in-law Bess Tarkington Lee (Mike); brother-in-law Ed Tarkington (Helen); extended family of Laura and Tom Stevens, Kate Hearne (Sanders), Thomas Stevens (Claire); nieces Faith and Channing Lee, Mary-Randolph and Lettie Tarkington; and nephew Knowlton Lee. Ryan’s life on this earth was defined by his tremendous stamina, his loyalty to friends and family, his faith, and his selfless, compassionate nature. He found his greatest joys in his wife and children and in serving others both in his professional life and his community, especially through the congregation at Rivermont Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and youth Sunday School Teacher. A humble, generous man, Ryan was always alert to the needs of others and often met those needs without ever having to be asked, quietly and without expectation of thanks or reward. Ryan loved to run and could often be seen on the streets of Lynchburg, bringing to mind Hebrews 12: “let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.” Ryan ran his earthly race without wavering, and finished with strength, courage, and, above all, faith.

A private family graveside service will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend the memorial service officiated by Dr. David Weber, Pastor Ron Cox, and Pastor Shane Whelan at Rivermont EPC at 1 p.m. on August the 14th (livestream available www.rivermont.org). Due to the rise of Covid-19 infections, the family requests that you wear face coverings during the memorial service and there will not be a visitation following the service.
