Ryland Watson Meade \"RW\", 87, of Lynchburg, died July 27, 2010. He was the son of the late William R. Meade and the late Maude Daugherty Meade. He is survived by his fiancée, Geraldine Farmer.
He is preceded in death by wife Donna Coleman Meade. He is survived by their son Bryon P. Meade, married to Jennifer Self Meade and daughter, Ellison. He is also preceded in death by former wife, Doris Hall Meade. Survived by four sons: Charles H. Meade, married to Peggy Coffey Meade (Charles\"™ daughters Wendy, married to Troy Onofry (sons, Cole and Carter and daughter, Lauren) and Tina DeHart, her son Brandon); David W. Meade (son, Brandon Meade, married to Donna Meade (daughters Adrianna and Gabriella)); Alan J. Meade married to Debbie Gosett Meade (daughter Allison and her fiancé, Craig Kelley); and Paul W. Meade. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Paige Craft; and one brother, William (Bill) Meade.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers; Winston Mead and Trevillion Meade. All were married and had children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ryland \"RW\" lived in Lynchburg except for serving time in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He also lived in Washington, D.C. for several years. \"RW\" attended Lynchburg College and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
He was part owner of Advertising Art Studios until retiring in 1995. After retiring, he free-lanced as a draftsman for several years and designed numerous homes in the Lynchburg area. He also enjoyed painting landscapes. \"RW\" regularly attended Thomas Road Baptist Church for many years.
A Christian memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 5, 2010 in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home with the Dr. Homer Massey and the Rev. Roy Newman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
