Sadie Tinsley Hendricks, 93, of Lynchburg, Virginia, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at her residence with her beloved son, Dennis. She was born on March 7, 1929, to the late Samuel and Martha Ann “Allie” Mitchell Tinsley in Amherst, Virginia. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward M. Hendricks, Sr.; four brothers: William, Bland, Henry and Walter Tinsley; one sister, Mary T. Massie; and one grandson, Shondel Hendricks.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Amherst Virginia. After graduating from the Amherst County Public School system, she moved to Media, Pennsylvania to live with her brother before returning home to wed her husband and raise a wonderfully spirited family. She was a firm but loving person who appreciated everyone’s individuality. She fostered singular relationships with her loved ones while continually promoting cohesion within her family. She worked for Craddock Terry Shoe Company for years, before retiring and working part-time to help others keep their homes as clean as she kept hers. She was affectionately known as “Foxy Lady” and was the community’s self-taught and talented hairdresser. She instilled a love of music and shoes in her children and grandchildren and encouraged everyone to attain higher learning to reach their highest potential.
Sadie leaves to cherish her memory, her six children: Lewis Hendricks, Janifer H. Sales (Roosevelt), Amy H. Strange (William – deceased), Dennis Hendricks, Jessica H. Langhorne (T.R.), and Edward Hendricks, Jr. (Amanda); eleven grandchildren: Eric, Janifer, Maurice, Patricia, Algunszo, Regina, O’Bryan, Gardenia, Theodore, III, Charlotte and Tinsley; twenty-six great-grandchildren; one sister, Byrdie T. Jackson; one brother; Arthur Tinsley; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
