Sally Ann Knight Counts

Sally Ann Knight Counts, 97, of Bedford, Virginia died on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Osson Perry and Helen White Knight. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Charles Counts and her son, Charles Andrew Counts; also, by five brothers: C. Perry Knight (Myrtle), John “Jack” C. Knight (Mary), Will N. Knight (Margaret), Joseph H. Knight (Elizabeth), Kemper W. Knight (Kathleen) and a sister, Hilda Knight Coffey (Floyd). 

Surviving her are a daughter, Rebecca Counts Averett (Lewis), and a daughter-in-law Debra Counts Witt (Walter). Also, loving members of the Averett family and special friends William, Diane, and Hunter Clark; several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. 

Sally was a long-time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Bedford, Virginia. 

She was a graduate of Lynchburg College and taught elementary school in Lynchburg and Bedford County for 27 years. 

Sally enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques and minerals, and solving crossword puzzles. She loved animals, especially dogs, and had many precious dog friends over the years. 

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bedford at 2:00 pm, with Father Wilson Brown officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Virginia Memorial Park. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bedford Public Library, Bedford Humane Society, or the Boys Home of Virgina.
