Sally Spring Camden passed away Sunday August 29th at LGH after suffering a stroke. She is survived by her loving husband, John Henry Camden. They would have celebrated their 35th anniversary in September.
Sally was born on March 24, 1933, to Harland Spring and Violet Townley Spring in Rochester, New York. She was raised and educated in Rochester. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Spring Chioccola of New Hampshire. Sally is also survived by her six children and their spouses. Timothy Houston of Forest, James Houston and Liz of Washington state, Becky Casey of Forest, Melody Dempsey of Vinton, Heidi Roach and Earl of Florida, Dee Dee Harris and Kevin of Lynchburg. Thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews from Massachusetts and New Hampshire As well as her longtime friend Shirley Gilliam of Lynchburg.
Her children want to remember their mother for being the selfless daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. She lived her life tirelessly caring for the needs of others. Jesus taught us that the poor would always be with us. Mom would not like for her kids to be “blowing a trumpet” about all of her goodness but here goes! She truly followed Jesus’s teachings. Care for the poor, for they will always be with us. She did. We remember growing up not realizing WE were among the poor. She would seek out children in need, bring them home, show us there were others who had less. She taught us to share our clothes, food and especially our time so they would know they were valued. Mom had many friends throughout her life. Some for a season, some for a reason, to live under her roof when they had no place to go and others, forever. We miss our mother so much and know she is at peace without ever to feel physical pain for eternity!
A celebration of Sally’s life will take place at a time when her family and friends can be together.
