Samuel Kenneth Shumate, 59, of Lynchburg, died Friday, May 04, 2018.
Born Wednesday, May 21, 1958 in Lynchburg, Virginia, Kenny a son of the late Sam Henry Shumate and Jerlene Tate Perdieu.
Kenny retired after 20 years of service to his country from the U.S. Navy and Air Force. He retired as rank of Master Sergeant and among his achievements were Coordinator for F-16 Demonstration Team. He was deployed during the Persian Gulf War and served a tour in South Korea and Japan.
After retiring from the Air Force, Kenny worked at Lowe’s Home Improvement for over 15 years in AZ and VA. Anyone who met Kenny knows – he never met a stranger.
In addition to his mother, Kenny is survived by his step-father, Gene Stewart, a brother Jeff Shumate, his wife Holly of Jacksonville, FL, a sister, Bettie Smith and her husband Kyle, of Virginia, a daughter Erin Gudmunson, son-in-law Ryan, grandson Jackson all of Washington State, and son Donald Milner of Florida a niece Sarah Wyatt and great niece Avery Wyatt and great nephew Jackson Wyatt all of Virginia,.
In addition to his father, Kenny was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Shumate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Altavista Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. J. Monty Fox officiating.
