Samuel Turner Dawson

November 18, 1961 — December 30, 2016

The life of Samuel Turner Dawson, 55, of Rustburg, was tragically cut short on Friday, December 30, 2016. He was born November 18, 1961, a son of Kenneth R. Dawson and the late Rachel Tanner Dawson.

He was a loving and devoted husband and proud father. He cherished his time hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He worked all his life in the logging business, first with his father and then his brother before starting his own company, Three Forks Logging, Inc., in 2003. He never shied away from hard work and took great pride in doing his best to provide for his family and look out for his customers. He was a graduate of the Class of 1980 of Rustburg High School, and enjoyed going to high school sporting events. He was not one to engage in a lot of social activities, but enjoyed a quiet and laid-back lifestyle. He loved the Lord and was a lifelong, faithful member of Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church, where he was currently serving as an elder.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lisa Hankla Dawson, and two sons, Gregory Samuel “Cuz” Dawson and his wife, Brittany and Benjamin Turner Dawson and his girlfriend, Nicole Riley, all of Rustburg. Also surviving are his brother, William Royal Dawson Of Pinehurst, NC, and his girlfriend, Kathy Chan of Washington, DC, and sisters, Shirley D. Falwell and husband David of Lynchburg, and Susan D. Whittington and husband Tom, of Palm City Florida, a sister-in-law, Janice P. Dawson, and a brother-in-law, Alfred Hankla and his wife Marye Ann, all of Rustburg, and nieces and nephews, Chris and Lisa Dawson, Kevin, Stacy, Crawford, Ally and Sawyer Dawson, Joey and Marcie Dawson, Daniel, Heather and Nathalie Hankla, all of Rustburg, Dina and Brack Blackstock of Altavista, Craig, Sally and Evey Falwell of Dallas, Texas, Jordan, Ian, Farrah and Lexington Taylor of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Kennerly McVeigh of St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Alfred K. Dawson.
