Sandra Lee Wade Brooks, 64, of Lynchburg, Va., died Saturday, December 05, 2015.
Born September 23, 1951 in Lynchburg; Sandra was the daughter of the late Buford Wade and Lois B. Wade Knight.
In addition to her mother and stepdad, Frank M. Knight; Sandra is survived by her children, Ginny Brooks Ogden and her husband, John, of Forest, and Stephen Brooks, and his wife, Amber, of Altoona, Iowa; grandchildren, Page, Stuart, Brendan, and Emma Ogden, and Parker and Ava Brooks; three stepsisters, one stepbrother, and numerous aunts and cousins.
Sandra was a loving and compassionate daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. “Goggie” to her grandchildren, she was always excited to cheer at ball games, races, band competitions, school programs, and plays. She was always there to help friends and family in need. A graduate of Brookville High School, she was a Preschool Teacher at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and Quaker Memorial Church. She was also a substitute teacher in Bedford County where she worked primarily with students with special needs. In her spare time she enjoyed taking walks, cooking, baking, crafting, knitting, watching classic movies and spending time with her family. She loved animals and thought of her pets as family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Sandra’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Robert Putt officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Virginia Ogden c/o First Citizens Bank, 20373 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502 in Sandra’s name to help provide emergency veterinary care for those in need.
