Sandra McCraw Lewis, 77, of 369 Thames Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Lyle McCraw and Bertha Lawhorne McCraw of Madison Heights, Virginia. Her husband, Charlie Daniel (Dan) Lewis preceded her in death in 1989.
She was a 1952 graduate of Madison Heights High School and a 1955 graduate of Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at Virginia Baptist Hospital until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church in Lynchburg until she moved to Maryland in 2003. She currently is a member of Hopeful Baptist Church, Williamsport, Maryland.
Sandra is survived by two sons, Kendall B. Lewis and wife, Deborah of Bristow, VA, and Stuart M. Lewis of Hagerstown, MD; two daughters, Marcia (Marty) L. Nixon and husband Jerry of Forest, VA, and Cheryl L. Cooper and husband, Wesley of Chambersburg, PA; one sister, Gerry McCraw Harvey of Glen Allen, VA; one brother, Hale A. (Buddy) McCraw and wife, Maxine of Bedford, VA; four grandchildren, Erin N. Geiger and husband, Mark, Drew C. Nixon, Matthew C. Lewis, and Cameron D. Lewis; two step-grandchildren, Kelly and Casey Cooper.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on, Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathanael B. "Nick" Habel and Pastor Scott Johnston officiating. A reception will follow the service. A private burial will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
