Sara Sellers Osteen

Sara Sellers Osteen (Mrs. John F. Osteen) died Tuesday March 23, 2010.  She died peacefully in her sleep about 2:30 AM.  Sara was born July 30, 1929 in Fitzpatrick, Alabama.  Sara was the youngest of seven girls born to J. Stuckey Sellers and Kathleen Delacy Haddock Sellers.  She graduated the University of Alabama with a degree in Home Economics in 1950.  She then went to work in Columbus, Georgia for the school system as instructor of Adult Education.  There she met and married John F. Osteen.  They were married for 58 years.

She is survived by her husband John, son J. Michael Osteen and his wife, Gail, daughter Nancy Marie Oberley and husband, Russell.  She is survived by two grandchildren, Jeremy Oberley and Maisie Bruce Osteen.  She is survived by two sisters, Lorene Moore and husband, Gurnia, and Hazel Hanvey.  She is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al F. and Retha Osteen, a brother-in-law, J. Vernon Godfrey and many nieces and nephews.

Sara enjoyed service to her community, she delivered Meals on Wheels for 13 years, worked with the Visually Handicapped for 12 years, did substitute teaching for a number of years and shared in the sponsorship of a Vietnamese family with her church.  She was very active in Peakland Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and Chairman of Deacons.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 26th at Peakland Baptist Church from 7:30 to 8:30 PM.  A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Peakland Baptist Church on Saturday, March 27th at 2:00 PM.  After cremation her ashes will be interred in the Columbarium at Peakland Baptist Church.
