Scott C. Robert

Scott C. Robert (57) passed away on June 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Scott was born April 2, 1966, in Georgia to Dr. Frank and Jean Robert. At a very early age, Scott developed tremendous musical talent. He was chosen to perform the violin at Wolf Trap with Itzhak Perlman when he was young, and he performed at Colonial Williamsburg. In middle school, he played the trumpet and won the John Philip Sousa award. While attending Phoebus High School in Hampton VA, he played trumpet for the marching band, was drum major, and became a Tri-State champion. A natural athlete, Scott was on Phoebus’ tennis and diving teams.

Scott attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC, where his physics lab partner introduced him to the love of his life: beautiful, compassionate and caring Laura McCarter. He played on the golf team and was the college costumed mascot “Andy.” Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and later earned a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University.

Scott excelled working in Air Force security, climbing the GS ranks. He was passionate about sharing experiences with declassified details including guarding Air Force One, protecting celebrities during USO shows, and facilitating joint security conferences and training sessions. Scott also worked at the Pentagon.

In 1994, he married Laura in a winter wedding in Charlotte, NC. After Laura completed her medical residency, Scott and Laura chose to become part of the Lynchburg community because they “loved the people there.”

Scott was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and enjoyed his time with the lodge. He volunteered on the Board of Directors of Greater Lynchburg Meals on Wheels. Scott was a devout Christian and cherished working as an elected Elder at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church where he and Laura were members with their three children. Scott enjoyed his 22 years as Director of Employee Relations, working for and teaching classes at the University of Lynchburg where he made many friends. His sly humor made him popular with the students and visiting parents. The comments written about him on the “Rate My Professor” website are outstanding and telling. His outgoing personality made him instantly popular with businesses that were recruiting students on campus. Scott gained his colleagues’ trust as the past President of the Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers (VACE). The entire community will miss Scott’s upbeat and positive personality.

Scott’s hobbies included family travel, golf, sailing, discovering gadgets, fishing, being near the water, and all things Scottish. Scott always put family first and enjoyed his life with Laura, their children, and their dog, Luke. He especially loved watching his children learn new things and he cherished their family time together. His heart was full of joy whenever he spoke of his children.

In the last few years, Scott, a certified PADI diver, loved diving with his daughter Virginia in the Bahamas. Scott loved the water, especially the ocean. He spent many summers boating and sailing in the tidewater area. Scott cherished playing a trumpet duet with his son Joseph. He shared his love of music also with Sarah – picking up and playing different instruments including guitar and violin. Sarah shares Scott’s infectious sense of humor.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Frank Robert.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Laura McCarter Robert, and their three children: Virginia Robert, Sarah Robert and Joseph Robert.

He is also survived by his mother Jean Robert and his five siblings: Frank Robert Jr (Beth), Elizabeth Fyock (Jack), Katherine Shield (Stephen), Michael Robert (Kate), and Patricia Robert. Other close family members include Scott’s mother- and father-in-law Sue and John McCarter, his sister-in-law Amy Satterfield (Michael) and brother-in-law Daniel McCarter (Rachel).

Scott was blessed with 15 nephews and nieces: Rebecca Greer, Christina Bristow (Ryan), Michael Shield (Mollie), Jillian Fisher (Jesse), Natalie Fyock, Matthew Shield, Lindsay Robert, Andrew Shield, Neal Fyock, Charlotte Robert, Cameron Robert, Joshua Robert, Summey Satterfield, Asher McCarter and Eli McCarter.

Scott is also survived by his beloved aunt Carol Robert Armstrong and his cousins Evelyn Armstrong (Will Marks) and Robert Armstrong (Kristen).

A Celebration of Life for Scott C. Robert will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:00am at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5810 Fort Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24502. A reception will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Greater Lynchburg Meals on Wheels, the Alzheimer’s Association, or Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church to support the youth programs.
