Sergeant Major Felix Thomas Jackson, 68, of Forest, died on Friday, April 2, 2010. Born March 21, 1942 in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Alice Belle Pearson Jackson and Ralph Brantley Jackson.
Felix is survived by the love of his life, Dorris Brown Jackson, to whom he was married for 13 years. In addition to his wife, Felix is survived by his children; Tracey and Danny Jackson, of Ellenwood, GA, Ricky Lee Burton and his wife, Wanda, of Fortworth, TX, Danny Ray Burton of Lynchburg, VA, Janice Dudley and her husband, Clint, of Big Island, VA, Tammy Rolfes and her husband, Tim, of Concord, VA,two brothers; Andrew \"Buck\" Jackson and his wife, Ann, of Gladys, VA, and Charlie Richard Jackson, and his wife, Frances, of Rustburg, VA, seven sisters; Bessie Joyce Farris, of Forest, VA, Alice Beatrice Hughes and her husband, Don, of Richmond, VA, Norma Jean Tripplett, and her husband, Pastor Ray Tripplett, of Rustburg, VA, Dorothy Hall and her husband, Forrest, of Forest, VA, Linda Trent Moss and her husband, Jim, of Forest, VA, Mary Lois Jackson of Richmond, VA, and Virginia \"Ginny\" Haskins and her husband, Archer, of Lynchburg, VA. He also is survived by 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Felix will be remembered for his military service to our country. Joining the U S Marines, he served in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Forrestal. Enlisting in the US Army during the Bay of Pigs conflict he became a member of the 101st Air Bourne. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam receiving thirteen purple hearts. After serving 31 years, 10 months, and 4 days Felix retired as a Sergeant Major. He loved every minute of military life and would have reenlisted if he could have.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Virginia, and at other times at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Hughes and Pastor Ray Triplett officiating. Interment will follow in Big Island Cemetery.
