Sharon Elaine Mielewski

November 22, 1960 — January 6, 2017

Sharon Elaine Mielewski, of Lynchburg, age 56, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 6, 2017, after a long and brave fight with cancer. She was born in Richmond on November 22, 1960, the daughter of Earl and Dorothy Louise Barton.

Sharon graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and went on to touch the lives of countless students during her almost 33 years as a middle and high school teacher at Poquoson Middle School in the Tidewater area, and Liberty High School in Bedford, respectively. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her students and was not only a model on how to write essays, but how to treat others. She spared no expense to always go the extra mile when it came to her students; many have named Sharon as their favorite teacher, a well-deserved title.

She married her soulmate, Daniel Mielewski on September 8, 1996, in Newport News, Virginia, where they lived for 14 years, eventually moving to Bedford, Virginia in 2010.

Mrs. Mielewski was a very family-oriented person, always setting time aside to spend with her husband, Danny, and dearly loved son, Joseph. Her caring personality and love will always be remembered by all whom she has touched in her short time on this Earth.

Sharon was preceded in death by her Father, Earl Barton of Newport News, mother Dorothy Louise Barton of Newport News, and her brother, Stuart Barton of Newport News. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Mielewski of Lynchburg; her son, Joseph Mielewski of Lynchburg; her brother, Steve Barton of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a multitude of close friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA, 24502.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
