Shelvy W. Roberts
June 10, 1938 — April 8, 2018
Shelvy Wright Roberts, 79 of Lynchburg formerly of Maple Drive in Madison Heights passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Shelvy was preceded in death by her parents, Alex M Wright and Annie Blunt Wright. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Bell Wright and Winston Wright.
Shelvy was married to Melvin Roberts, who also preceded her in death. They enjoyed married life for forty seven years. During their married life they traveled to many foreign countries in Europe, South America and in the Caribbean. They also spent time visiting Canada and many of the United States. Shelvey enjoyed sharing her travel experiences with her friends.
Shelvy was a talented musician who played the organ in many Lynchburg Churches. She was the organist for Whitten Funeral Homes as well. During the years she taught many young children how to play the piano. She enjoyed teaching and passing her love of music to young people. Shelvy graduated from Lynchburg College with a Bachelor’s Degree in music and education. Earlier in life Shelvy was a telephone operator with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. She was still proud that she could remember many area codes.
Shelvy is survived by many friends from her years of being a church organist in the Lynchburg area and her friends who were caretakers since she was disabled the last years of her life. These include Don and Laura Toms, Jeremy, Nicholas, Ryan and Somer Toms and their families, Beth and Vince Gestwick their children Nathan and Shannon Gestwick, Jimmy and Barbara Blunt, Tommy Morrison, Jo Matthews, Alice and A.J. Johnson, Cynthia Meredith, Betty Harris, Wanda Rosser, the staff at Runk and Pratt Leesville Road and many others.

The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford with Rev. Dr. H.O. Tom Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 am. The burial will be private later.
