Sherwood Daniel Hudson Sr., 82, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 19, 1934, a son of the late Richard Daniel Hudson and Irene Virginia Hudson. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Knight Hudson; son, Sherwood Daniel “Dan” Hudson Jr., and wife Linda; and his beloved daughter, Cindy Daugherty and husband Dan. He adored his grandchildren, Jason Hudson and wife Jeffrie , of Lynchburg, Jeremi Hudson and wife Justine, of Spokane, Wash., Blaine Daugherty Jr., and wife Amanda, of Midlothian, Va., his only granddaughter-Sarah Daugherty, Tyler Dorr and Jacob Dorr. Survivors also include; a loving and faithful brother, Clyde E. Hudson and wife Shirley, of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Beaulah Knight of Roanoke, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and longtime friends. He was blessed with three great-grandchildren; Carmen Hudson, Tripp Daugherty and Caine Hudson.
Sherwood served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving aboard the heavy cruiser USS Los Angeles (CA-135). He served two tours of duty in Korea and was awarded five battle stars. He also served on the Lynchburg Police Department for several years and retired from Babcock and Wilcox.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory in Lynchburg. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at Tharp followed by interment at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at their residence.
