Shirley Barbour Mayo

Shirley Barbour Mayo 61, of Gladys passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 after a brief illness. She was the wife of Bert Mayo for 39 years.

Born on December 17, 1951 in Danville, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Barbour and the late Ethel Bolling Barbour. 

Shirley was a member of the Brookneal Lions Club and the Alright Writers Group, what brought her the most joy was spending time with her family and those she considered family.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Cindy McGraw.

In addition to her husband Bert, she is survived by her children;  Julie Mayo Martin (Wilfred) of Amherst: David Mayo of Gladys: Brian Mayo of Lynchburg: Kim Burton (Lance) of Gladys: 9 grandchildren: Hunter Mayo, Devin Mayo, Jaden Mayo, Wesley Martin, Earl Martin(Kendall), Ashley Marshall(Matthew), Samantha Adcock(John) and Quentin Martin: 5 great-grandchildren: Gabrielle Marshall, Matthew Marshall Jr., Shelby Adcock, Robert Adcock and Noah Martin, two brothers: Roger Barbour (Linda), Jerry Barbour (Sandy) both of Forest, a sister Joyce Barbour of Gladys, 4 nephews: Matthew Barbour, Michael Barbour, Josh Barbour, 4 nieces: Leslie Barbour, Jessica Ware, Ann Iniguez and Leslie Bourbor: 3 great nieces: Jamyaa Barbour, Alana Ware and Yesenia Iniguez: 5 nephews: Josh Barbour, Leslie Barbour, Christian Barbour, Trey Ware, Nicholas Ware and Valentin Iniguez.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 23 2013 in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookneal Lions Club.
