Shirley Bell Gordon

Shirley Victoria Bell Gordon was born on November 27, 1929, in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was the fourth child of the late Julius and Fannie Bell. She died on May 2, 2018.
Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Eighth Street Baptist Church in Lynchburg, where she remained an active member all her life. She graduated from Dunbar High School.
Shirley was married to the late Jerome Gordon, Sr. To their union, three children were born: Jerome Gordon, Jr., of Gaithersburg, MD, Victor Gordon, of Washington, D.C., Lynda G. Darby, of Lynchburg.
Early in Shirley’s career, she was a nursing assistant and a seamstress. For many years, she was a faith volunteer at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Shirley loved spending time with her family. Loving memories of her will be cherished by her three devoted children, son-in-law, Johnny Darby; daughter-in-law, Renae Hillman-Gordon; four grandchildren, Arianne and Brittany Darby, Shelby and Camille Gordon, and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Braelyn Carroll. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon), on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Eighth Street Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Smith officiating.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
