Shirley Christian Kemmerer

Shirley  Christian Kemmerer, 84, of Bedford, passed on Sunday, February 10, 2019. She was born on March 18, 1934 in Goshen, VA. She was the daughter of the late, Edward R. Christian and Lorene Lair Christian. Shirley was a retired LPN and loved helping others. She is a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Moneta, VA. She was a wonderful cook. She was known for her BBQ, lasagna, southern cooked meals, especially her coleslaw and potato salad. She loved spending time with her family and church. She also enjoyed reading to her grandchildren and being a hostess at her home and any event with fellowship.

Shirley is survived by her loving Husband of 61 years, Lewis E. “Jack” Kemmerer; four children, Janet, Jay and his wife, Jennifer, Russ and his wife, Debbie, and Scott Kemmerer; five grandchildren, Brian, Jason, Nathan, Austin and Lexi; two great-grandchildren, Remi and Bristol;  She is also survived by two special childhood friends, Lila Davidson and Jane Tombs, also numerous other family and church family.

A funeral service and celebration of Shirley’s life will be conducted at 10:00 am on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford with Pastor Danny Poff officiating. The family will receive friends from 8:45 to 9:45 am prior to the service also in the chapel. Burial will follow the service at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston, VA.
