Shirley Colbert Robinson, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Lynchburg on Saturday, September 18, 2010. Shirley loved her many, many great friends and neighbors throughout her whole life. She also loved tennis, which she played until age 78, and bridge, for as long as anybody can remember. Her sense of humor helped seal her membership into the proverbial \"Cat Bird\" club.
She worked briefly for the FBI in Washington, D.C. during WWII and after returning to her home town, she worked for the Lynchburg Public Schools as Secretary at Janet Snead and Linkhorne Elementary Schools.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Eaton Robinson, Jr. and a daughter, Pamela Robinson Parr.
She is survived by a son, Charles E. Robinson III and his wife Barbara Ferrari, a daughter, Robin Robinson Roberts and her husband Thomas W. Roberts, Jr. of Roanoke and a son-in-law, Randy Parr. She is also survived by her much beloved granddaughters: Betsy Roberts Thomas and husband, Ben of Raleigh, N.C., Mary Roberts of Roanoke and Sallie Roberts of Atlanta, GA.
Shirley also is survived by three sisters, Betty Jean Prencipe, Gertrude Bair, Phyllis Malley and one brother, Donald Colbert and his wife, Nancy.
The family wants to especially offer thanks for the genuine compassion and friendship shown to Shirley by the caregivers of Generation Solutions, Gentle Shepherd Hospice and First Presbyterian Parish Nurse.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 \"" 7:30 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Monday, Sept. 20, 2010. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am in First Presbyterian Church on V.E.S. Rd, Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 with Rev. John Scholer officiating.
