Shirley Mckinley Sprouse
Shirley McKinley Sprouse passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 22, 2011, in Lynchburg, VA. He was deeply loved and was always thankful for the blessings of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Born January 4, 1937 in Albemarle County, VA, Shirley was a son of the late Ellis Benjamin Sprouse and Myrtle Stinnett Sprouse. He was the husband of Julia Ellen Pugh Sprouse for 36 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; William, Ellis Jr., Early, and Phillip Sprouse.
In addition to his wife, Shirley is survived by his children; Steve Sprouse and his wife, Judy, of Madison Heights, Vicky Branham and her husband, Don, of Lynchburg, Mark Sprouse and his wife, Ellen, of Madison Heights, Amanda Sprouse, of Lynchburg, and Renata Sprouse, and a special friend, Whitney Crews, of Lynchburg, eight grandchildren; Chris Tyree and his wife, Wendy, of Lynchburg, Rachel Waller and her husband, Scooter, of Madison Height, Jascin Sprouse, of Madison Heights, Donnie Sprouse and his wife, Tara, of Appomattox, Michael Branham, of Lynchburg, Brandon Staton, of Madison Heights, Joey Brooks, Lynchburg, and Breanna Rankin of Lynchburg, two great grandchildren; Nathaniel and Taylor Tyree, of Lynchburg, and a brother, Emmett Sprouse, of Lynchburg.
Shirley loved children, even those that were not his, especially playing ball in yard. He loved riding the tractor on the farm and working with his dad. He was an artist, who loved to paint. He was a faithful member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, 118 Commonwealth Drive, Madison Heights and at other times at the home of Steve and Judy Sprouse. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Thomas Road Baptist Church (Pate Chapel), with the Rev. Dave Heerspink, and the Rev. Charlie Harbin officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Thomas Road Baptist Church, 1 Mountain View Road, Lynchburg, VA.
