Shirley Roach Tweedy

Shirley Roach Tweedy, 91, of Lynchburg passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on May 12, 1932, to the late Raymond Andrew Roach and the late Ethel Burnette Roach of Brookneal, Va.

She was married to the love of her life, George Miles Tweedy for 61 years until he passed away on July 22, 2013. She graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1950 at Brookneal High School. She then graduated from Virginia Commercial College of Lynchburg VA. Most of her working years were in the real estate business, and she retired from Coldwell Banker Forehand. 

Shirley and George were avid golfers and most of their vacations were spent traveling to golf courses.  She loved playing golf at Myrtle Beach, especially after getting a hole-in-one there.

She was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church for many years.

She is survived by her brother Roland A. Roach and his children; Gina Williams and Michele Bland (Robert). Since she did not have any children, she treated her nieces and nephew as her own: Stormie Grant (Cameron) and their children; Cole, Blake and Avie, Robert Williams (Jenny), Kathryn and Sarah Bland, Emilie VanFleet and Aimie Adams. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Arlene Paris and Shirley Altarac and their children.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ian McManamey officiating. A visitation will be held one hour after the service.
