Shirley dedicated herself to her education and achieved notable academic milestones. She received her bachelor's degree from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before pursuing and earning her doctorate at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Her commitment to learning and intellectual growth was a testament to her character and a source of pride throughout her life.
A devoted mother, Shirley adored her daughter, Stephanie Ruskin, and her husband, Alan Ruskin, who she is survived by. In addition to her family, Shirley also cherished her connections to community and service. She was actively involved with Guiding Eyes for the Blind and the American Association of University Women, reflecting her compassion and dedication to helping others.
In her leisure time, Shirley found joy in playing Bridge and had a deep affection for animals.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank William Simcik, and her parents, Weldon M. Myers and Adele C. Carter, who provided her with love and support throughout her life.
A private service in her memory will be held at a later date.
