Slivester Nganga Thuo

January 10, 1955 — April 25, 2025

Lynchburg, Virginia

It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Slivester Nganga Thuo, who departed this life on April 24, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Born in 1955 in Deiya Village, Kiambu County, Kenya, Slivester was the son of the late Michael Thuo Kiraki and Tabitha Wanjiku Thuo. He was the fourth of nine siblings and spent his early years in Kanunga Village, growing up as a bright and joyful child rooted in Kikuyu traditions. He was a beloved brother to Lucy Njeri Njenga (California, USA), the late Kiraki Thuo, the late Wambui Thuo, Francis Wanjema, Peter Kioi, Jane Ngendo, John Kiraki, and the late Richard Njoroge.

Slivester pursued his education diligently, completing both primary and secondary schooling before advancing to college. In 1977, he began a distinguished career in public service by joining the police force. A year later, he transitioned into the security sector, serving with commitment at Moi International Airport in Mombasa and later at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. After taking early retirement in 1993, he found new purpose in the tourism industry. In 2012, Slivester moved to the United States, where he continued to build a life of faith, family, and service.

A devout Roman Catholic, Slivester was baptized in 1955 and confirmed in 1962. In his youth, he faithfully served as an altar boy—early signs of the strong spiritual foundation that guided his life.

In 1984, Slivester married the love of his life, Nancy Waithira Nganga, at the Roman Catholic Church in Karen, Nairobi. Together, they built a beautiful family and were blessed with five children: Regina Wanjiku Nganga, Alice Wairimu Nganga, Maureen Njeri Nganga, Michael Thuo Nganga, and Kelvin Kiraki Nganga. He was a proud and loving grandfather to many, and a cherished father-in-law to Peter K. Gathuku, Jhateyia Nganga, and Alfred Sagera.

In 2017, Slivester began experiencing health challenges, which he bore with grace and strength. Through it all, his faith remained unshaken. He was a God-fearing man, deeply devoted to his family, and known for his warm heart and unwavering love.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well lived—a life marked by faith, service, and unconditional love. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in the words of Habakkuk 2:3: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” May his soul rest in eternal peace.
