Stanislavs “Stanley” Misjuns, 95, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2019. Stanley was born November 24, 1923 in Riga, Latvia, the son of Mateuss Misjuns and Ursula Misjuns. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Misjuns; his son, O.J. Misjuns; his parents; and two sisters, Elvira Misjuns and Biruta Misjuns Dille.
In 1951, after WW II, Stanley immigrated to the United States from a displaced persons camp in Germany, and settled in Philadelphia, PA, with his wife and two sons. He was a member of the Philadelphia local chapter – United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and later founded Stanley Misjuns, Inc., a general contracting firm specializing in retail store construction, servicing the Atlantic Coast and the Midwest. Before retiring to Vero Beach, FL in the early 1990s, he was a member of St. John’s Latvian Lutheran Church and the Philadelphia Society of Free Letts.
Stanley is survived by his son Olafs Gaibiselis and wife, Meg, of Lansdale, PA; daughter-in-law Susan Misjuns of Lynchburg; grandsons, Michael Misjuns and wife, Lisa, of Forest, VA; Matthew Misjuns of Forest, VA; Martin Misjuns and wife, Melinda, of Lynchburg; Andrew Gaibiselis of Lansdale, PA; Alexander Gaibiselis of Raleigh, NC; and seven great-grandchildren, Morgan, Luke, Elizabeth (Libbie), Blake, Brody, Maxwell and Henry, as well as a niece, Marika Dille, of Riga, Latvia.
Stanley was very proud of his heritage, and his family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to aid needy Latvian youth in Stanley’s name to: American Latvian Association, Office of Support and Aid to Latvia, 400 Hurley Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850-3121.
A graveside service, officiated by Chaplain Brian Whited, will be held at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA, on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 11 a.m.
