Stanley John Kominic, 65, of Forest passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at home, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Kay Kominic for forty years.
Stan was born May 1, 1951 in Douglas, Ga., the son of the late Stanley Kominic, Sr. and Martha Beth Kirkland Kominic.
Stan’s career was devoted to the Social Security Administration for thirty-six years. For most of that time he was the district manager for the office in Lynchburg. VA. He also served as an area director for the state of West Virginia. Early in his career, he managed the first model field office involving computer modernization for the entire agency and brought that to completion.
Stan’s passions were music and golf. As a teen and young adult he loved to play drums /guitar in various bands, but he found his true gift in working with the percussion students at Jefferson Forest High School. His love of golf started when he played with his dad and later branched out to meeting friends for a game on his favorite course. In all kinds of weather he could be seen with his golf buddies playing the game he loved so much at Ivy Hill Golf Course.
In addition to his wife, left to cherish his memory, are his son, Kenny Kominic and his daughter-in-law, Lauren Remmers of Rock Hill, SC. As well as his sister, Claire Kominic Terrill of Longs, SC.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 o’ clock noon at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 with Rev. Msgr. Michael D. McCarron officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Funeral Mass and a reception will follow immediately in the church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Stan’s name to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, Va. 24502 or to the Jefferson Forest Band Program, Jefferson Forest HS, and 1 Cavalier Circle, Forest VA 24551.
