Stanley Ward
Stanley Crawford Ward, 82, of Lynchburg, died Monday, May 23, 2011. He was the husband of the late Marcia Morrison Ward who he married in 1949.
Stanley was born September 4, 1928 in Portsmouth, OH a son of the late Dan Ward and Margaret Preston Ward. Stanley was a graduate from both James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg and the U.V.A Extension Division in Lynchburg. He was employed as a road designer with the Virginia Department of Transportation for 43 ½ years. He was a member of the Lynchburg Life Saving Crew where he served in many positions including captain. He was also a faithful member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg. Stanley was an avid hunter and outdoorsman with a deep respect for native Virginia wildlife.
He is survived by four sons; Stanley C. Ward, Jr. and his wife Misty of Merrill, WI, Pres Ward and his wife Terry of Bishop, GA, Bill Ward and his wife Laura of Tallahassee, FL, and John Ward of Richmond, three sisters; Roberta W. McIntire and her husband Gary and Jean W. Long all of Fredericksburg, and Margaret \"Peggy\" W. Perry of King George, and eight grandchildren; Trey Ward and his wife Laurie, Perkins Ward, Amanda and Aaron Ward, Shade Ward, Will, Sarah, and Jeb Ward, and one great grandchild Stanley Crawford Ward, IV.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother Howard P. Ward.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday May 28, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday May 29, 2011 at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Luke Farwell officiating.
