Staria J. Mitchell

Staria J.Mitchell, of Forest, went to her heavenly home on August 31, 2010 after a seven-year battle with severe health problems.  She was the wife of Douglas C. Mitchell for 22 years, whom she married on Valentine\"™s Day, 1988.

Born Saturday, September 10, 1955, she was raised in Forest, VA, a direct descendant of the \"May\" family.

Staria spent her adult life in the medical field, first as a registered respiratory therapist until 1984.  She returned to Lynchburg College and received her Bachelor of Science in Health Services in 1986.  She graduated from Lynchburg College with a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1992 and continued her education at UVA to receive a Master of Science in nursing in 1997.

Including her husband Douglas, she is survived by her loving mother, Patricia L. Weeks; her stepfather, Carlton Wayne Weeks; a nephew, Rodney W. Weeks, Jr.; an aunt, Norma L. Durham; a great aunt, Juanita Burford; and her devoted caretaker, Pat Hargis.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, whom she knew as \"Mother\", Deria May Lovern; and her two brothers whom she loved dearly, Rodney W. Weeks, Sr. and James L. Williamson.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, September 4, 2010 in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Evans officiating.  Staria will be entombed in the mausoleum at Virginia Memorial Park following the service.
