Stefan Aldoray Smith, age 61, of Lynchburg, Virginia, peacefully passed from this life into eternity on November 7th, 2023 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia on July 10, 1962 to the late Willie D. Smith and the late Dorothy Everett Smith. He was preceded in life by two beautiful granddaughters, Zaya Smith Franklin and Giana Mallory.
A graduate of Heritage High School in 1980 and a profound athlete, he would carry over those same excellent attributes into his very successful professional career. Enlisting in the United States Air Force, he served and protected our country while being stationed in Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Guam as a munitions specialist from 1988-1992. He was employed by: Ferbee Johnson, James T. Davis Paint, Lynchburg City Sheriff’s Department, and BWXT.
Stefan was a jack-of-all-trades; known for fixing and repairing any and everything from cars, commercial mechanical vehicles, carpentry, and landscaping. Known for keeping a joke on hand, he was a fun, inquisitive man who loved to laugh and sit around telling great stories.
Every year he looked forward to football season, watching the Baltimore Ravens, he looked forward to rooting his Ravens on and hoping for another Super Bowl win. Two of his absolute favorite pastimes ever, whitetail deer hunting and freshwater fishing, have always been a huge part of his lifestyle. It brought him great joy to teach his stepchildren and step-grandchildren the tricks of the trade he loved so enthusiatically.
Stefan loved texting Concetta daily about recipes and the meals she prepared and told her to open a restaurant or food truck. He often talked about how wonderful the food she prepared looked.
Stefan was a devout family man, a caring and generous soul, who’s laughter and storytelling will be missed by all of those who had the blessing of getting to know him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 17 years, Norma Raye Hawkins-Smith of Lynchburg, VA; one daughter, Concetta Mallory (Clifton) of Richmond, VA; one brother, Garry Everett Smith, (Patsy) of Nashville, TN; two step-children, Nikos Hawkins and Qiana Hawkins of Lynchburg, VA, three nieces, Dawn Smith and MaKayla Davis of Columbia, SC; Jorian Huckaby of Richmond, VA; one nephew, Joshlon Huckaby of Richmond, VA; devoted cousins, Victor Everett of District Heights, MD; William Banks of Washington DC, and Oslo Johnson of Baltimore County, MD; one uncle, Wilmer Smith (Ceil) of Upper Marlboro, MD; one aunt, Vincell Frank of Lynchburg, VA; three step-grandchildren, Sierra, Sienna, and Jordan; two brothers-in-law, Brack and Lorenzo Hawkins, devoted friends Ronald Brown and Kenny Brown, a devoted mother-in-law, Evelyn Jean Hawkins of Lynchburg, VA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He will be greatly missed by Lady, his loyal and loving rottweiler.
