Stella Angela Succo Gatchell, 85, of Forest, VA, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, after a long illness. She and her deceased husband, Stewart had resided with Adam and Joni Cox in Forest since 2006.
Born Wednesday, December 9, 1925 in Fort Lupton, CO, Stella was the daughter of the late Frank Succo and Cecilia Scioldo Succo.
Stella is survived by her children; Joni Cox and her husband Adam, of Forest, Pam G. Moore and her husband, Brooks, of Highland Village, TX, Dennis Gatchell, of Cheyenne, WY, and Gary Gatchell, of Denver, CO, nine grandchildren; Stewart Brooks and his wife, Jessica, Wyatt Moore and his wife, Jaime, Cecilia Sandoval and her husband, Jerry, Lawrence Moore and his wife, Tiffany, Angelica Gatchell, Megan Gatchell, and Bo Gatchell, Adam Cox III, Amy Cox, William Cox and his wife, Tina, ten great grandchildren; Maddilyn, Chloe, Lily, and Ingram Brooks Moore, Noah Sandoval, Tauna, Rebecca, Tyler, Madilyn, and Savanna Cox. and a brother, Virgil Succo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Frank Succo, and a granddaughter, Sara Moore.
After graduating from high school, she was employed by Union Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher and depot agent where she met her future husband of 60 years, Stewart Dean Gatchell. Stewart\"™s career with the railroad took their family of six from Lakewood, Colorado to Cheyenne, Wyoming and on to UP headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Stella and Stewart spent their retirement years in Rio Verde, Arizona. Stella maintained a tenacious spirit and wonderful sense of humor throughout her life. She will be greatly missed.
The Gatchell family would like to express heartfelt appreciation for the extraordinary care and love given Stella by her personal caretakers Mable Smith, Shirley Morris, and Kim Ramos, and also to the entire Gentle Shepherd Hospice family past and present.
A celebration of Stella's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Timberlake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Rob Colwell and the Rev. Jack Barrett officiating.
