Stephen Mattson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Mattson (40) of Lynchburg Virginia, who passed away on April 7th, 2025. A devoted son, loving brother, and cherished friend, who left us far too soon. Stephen was born on October 5th, 1984, in Naval Air Station Lemoore, California.

Stephen was homeschooled and eventually left home to become a proud Army veteran, who served for thirteen years.

Stephen is survived by his father, Bruce Mattson, his mother, Michele Mattson, his sister, Priscilla Nefcy, and his brother Ben Mattson. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his Uncle Phillip and Aunt Barb Mattson, and Uncle Paul Mattson, and by his chosen brothers Jarlath Ayala and Lorenzo Saenz.

Stephen enjoyed many things including reading, hosting dungeons and dragons, playing magic the gathering, playing video games and spending time with his friends. He had a infectious goofy smile that could light up any room, and his genuine warmth and kindness touched the heart of many.

A funeral service will be held on April 26, 2025, at 5 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
