Stephen Thomas Canard

Stephen Thomas Canard, 57, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Lynchburg General Hospital, due to a long illness and from complications from Covid-19. He was born April 21, 1963 to Carol Gremmler Canard and the late Thomas Clark Canard. He graduated from EC Glass High School ‘81, and then attended The University of Tennessee, and graduated from The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park NY ‘89.
He was a very talented chef and, until his illness, loved to cook and cater. He was happiest being part of Drum Corps International and was a member of The Crossmen. He’d still be marching and blowing his horn, if he could. He especially loved being active and extremely involved in his sons’ activities, most notably EC Glass marching band. The happiest part of his life was being a great father to his boys, who were his world.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sons, whom he adored; Thomas Clark Canard II, and Alexander Stephen Canard and his stepson, Tyler Pearce. Also, his niece Meghan Pritchard Durrett and her son Elil, nephew Matthew Pritchard and wife Carrington Watkins Pritchard and their children Maggie and Elizabeth, a very special cousin, Rhonda Trimm; and an uncle, Paul E Gremmler, Jr.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Canard Quarles, brother-in-law Jonathan Lee Quarles, and niece Emily Atkinson Quarles.
Due to covid, there will be a private family service at noon on Friday, January 29, 2021.
