Sterling L. Laughlin, of Brookneal, died on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. She was the wife of the late Jackie Womack. Born in Brookneal, Sterling was a daughter of Mary Tuck Laughlin and the late Walter Otis Laughlin, Sr.
In addition to her mother, Sterling is survived by a daughter: Barbara H. Draper of Annapolis, MD; a granddaughter: Allison G. Draper of New York, NY; a brother: Walter O. \"Bud\" Laughlin, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Goode: two nieces: Angela D. Laughlin, of Goode, and Dana L. Worsham, of Hurt; a great niece: Michalla C. Laughlin, of Goode; two great nephews: Walter J. Worsham and Jesse H. Worsham, both of Hurt; a special friend: Thomas O. Keefer of Brookneal; and numerous other family members.
In addition to her father, Sterling was predeceased by a sister, Barbara A. Laughlin.
Sterling was a strong, kind and loving mother, grandmother and sister. She was a hardworking and determined person who instilled in her family the desire to succeed. She battled cancer for the last two years. She held strong to her faith, and was a member of Brookneal United Methodist Church and the Brookneal Moose Lodge. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for her brother Bud Laughlin. She worked for the Bank of Charlotte County for ten years, and retired from the Bank of America in Farmville, after 27 years of service.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Pastor Brian Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and Friday, March 8, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sterling\"™s home.
