Stuart Dove Markham

Stuart Dove Markham, 101, of Lynchburg died Sunday, August 20, 2023. He was born on November 18, 1921, to Elmer and Grace Markham who preceded their son. He is also preceded by his wife of 50 plus years Erica Nill Markham and siblings, Arnold Markham, Isabella Fromm, Allen Markham, Dillard Markham, Dorothy Garret, Hayden Markham, Arthur Markham, Audrey Saunders, and Mildred Doss.

Stuart loved his family and country. He took great pride in having served in the U.S. Army during WWII. His biggest pleasures were working outdoors in his garden, yard, and flowers. In later years he was challenged by losing his sight. However, he managed to take responsibility for caring for his needs long after the loss of his beloved Erica.

His surviving family are two daughters, Ulla Hess Booth and Kirsten Markham Coleman and husband, Richard Coleman; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and many cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Virginia Memorial Park.
