On November 10, 2013, God answered Sue Lloyd Shaner\"™s fervent prayer to go home. She peacefully went to sleep in Virginia Baptist Hospital Hospice area and awoke in glory to join her husband, Charles Shaner and other loved ones. Her family was blessed to have her for 90 years. They include her daughter, Shirley Freeman Bowers and husband, Larry of Roanoke; son, Donald Ray Freeman and wife, Brenda of Forest; grandchildren, Revonda (David) Stordahl of Butte, MT; Rhonda Falcon (Gerard) of San Antonio, TX; Thomas (Jeanne) Freeman of Concord; Tara (Bernie) Gowen of Rustburg; great-grandchildren, Brice Clark; Danielle Clark; Whitney Freeman; Chandler, Braxton, Alex and Annie Gowen; beloved sister, Trudy L. Fields of Cottonwood, AZ and her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was known as \"Granny Sue\" by her church friends as well as her family.
Her many friends were a blessing to her, and she touched their lives in special ways.
The family expresses deep appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Lynchburg General and Virginia Baptist Hospice area. They provided superb, unequaled care and compassion to Sue and her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hyland Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 4538, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
A celebration of her life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, on Wednesday, November 13, at 1:00 p.m.; with the Reverend Carl Weiser, her friend and pastor. Visitation will be one hour before the service and at other times at the home of Ray and Brenda Freeman. A private burial will be held later.
