Sue T. Wilmoth
October 12, 1930 — December 15, 2020
Sue T. Wilmoth, a longtime resident of Forest, Va., passed away on December 15, 2020 in Lynchburg Va., after a long and courageous struggle against the complications of breast cancer.
She was born on October 12, 1930, in Elkins, W.V. and was the only child of the late Madalynne Lessenberry Talbott and the late William Donald Talbott. Sue married her husband, the late Stanley M. Wilmoth, on August 18, 1951 and they shared forty-one years together until his passing on December 19, 1992.
She is survived by three sons, Steven M. Wilmoth and his wife, Linda of The Woodlands, Tx., Daniel A. Wilmoth, and his wife, Ann of El Dorado Hills, Calif., and James B. Wilmoth and his wife, Karen of Palmyra, Va. Also treasuring the memory of her life and mourning her passing are five grandchildren, Lisa Wilmoth Veach, Sara Wilmoth Chan, Scott M. Wilmoth, Heather Wilmoth and Laura Wilmoth as well as nine great-grandchildren, Ryan Veach, Emma Veach, Abigail Veach, Maxwell Chan, Madalynne Chan, Molly Sue Chan, Rebecca Wilmoth, Emily Wilmoth and Samuel Morris Wilmoth. Sue is also survived by several beloved cousins, Ann MacLachlin Zaleski, Catherine Gross Hendren and Rob Gross and their families, who were very dear to her.
Sue was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and homemaker as she and Stanley lived in multiple places during his forty-two-year career with Nationwide Insurance. Despite being widowed at an early age and experiencing multiple health challenges over the course of her life, Sue always found great joy and happiness in her family and her many beloved friends. She had great gifts and skills for gourmet cooking which many enjoyed in her comfortable and welcoming home. Sue also had a great love for the times spent with friends and family at her favorite restaurant in Lynchburg, Isabella’s. Above all, she had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose grace sustained, comforted, and gave her peace throughout all of the days of her life. Sue attended the First Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg for many years and was blessed by the ministries of their two pastors, the Reverend Peter Thompson, and the Reverend Chad McCain.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many friends who loved and cared for her over so many years. Much loving gratitude goes to Susan and John Flora, Mercedes and Leyburn Mosby, Karen and Drake Covey, Jim and Lynetta McCormick, Jim and Carol Lusk, Cheri and Andrew Barauskas, Dana Jackson, and Mary Jenkins. We would also like to thank Deborah Beamer, Jeff Price, and the wonderful staff at Bentley Commons in Lynchburg for their kind, faithful and dedicated care over the past 3 1/2 years, and to her hospice nurses, Mackenzie Lipscomb and Penny Springs, with Gentle Shepherd Hospice, who lovingly ministered to Sue in her final days. We would also like to thank Sue’s doctors, Dr. Thomas Eppes and Dr. Cecelia McCallum, for their great skill and gentle care throughout our mother’s life.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021 with the Rev. Peter Thompson officiating. The family invites you to stay for a fellowship reception immediately following the service. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery will follow reception.
