Sue Gold left this world on May 11, 2024. She moved on to her next adventure with no fear and the love and support of her family and close friends.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Willian Johnson Campbell and Winifred Wilburn Campbell and her husband Dr, Marvin L. Gold.
She is survived by her sons Dr. Andrew L. Gold, (Kapolei, HI), Paul Gold, (Winchester, VA), her daughter Courtney Campbell Gold Cox, (Winchester, VA), and her Grandsons Alexander, Benjamin and Chris Gold, her sister Cathrine Campbell Riggs, (New Bern, NC), numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and her “Wild Wacky Wonderful Women” friends.
Sue graduated from, Mars Hill College, attended North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Her work included Social Services, Director of Lumberton Housing Authority and Redevelopment office, Lumberton, NC, Director of Kum Ba Yah Ecumenical Center, Lynchburg, VA. Assistant to Minister at Peakland Methodist Church and Regional Coordinator for Volunteer Emergency Families for Children in VA.
Her volunteer work was with Girl Scouts and Red Cross Disaster Team, as well as League of Women Voters, and tutoring 3-5 graders in North Carolina. In Virginia she volunteered with Wood Ministry of Lynchburg, Covenant Fellowship, leadership at the local and state level with the Mental Health Associations, and Hospice at Westminster Canterbury.
Sue wrote children’s and adult short stories, poetry and enjoyed choral work with Inpirare from Spectrum Arts Society and Westminster Canterbury Sings. She also had a passion for photography and many pieces hang in homes across the United States.
She had a warm and infectious sense of humor. Family and friends knew this trait well along with her encouragement and kindness. She loved deeply and her smiles, laughter, and hugs will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
