Louis Cappel Fischer, III, a resident of Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg, died October 15, 2012. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but grew up in Charleston, S.C., the son of the late Louis C. Fischer, Jr. and Adele R. Fischer, who survives him. His wife Charlotte A. Fischer and a daughter Elizabeth E. Fischer of Honolulu, H.I. also survive him, along with a brother, Eugene R. Fischer of Charleston, S.C., a sister, Sara F. Williams of Charleston, S.C., and several nieces and a nephew. A daughter, Martha C. Fischer, preceded him in death.
Mr. Fischer was a graduate of the College of Charleston, Virginia Episcopal Theological Seminary in Virginia and Lynchburg College. Mr. Fischer served several churches in South Carolina before moving to the Lynchburg area in 1968. He was rector of St. Stephen\"™s Episcopal Church in Forest for 20 years and also served St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg, St. Thomas\"™s Episcopal Church in Sedalia and St. Peter\"™s in Altavista.
Mr. Fischer was a Fellow of the College of Preachers and a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. He was a member of the staff of the Pastoral Counseling Center of Central Virginia for a number of years.
Over the years he served on a number of local and area boards, including the Lynchburg Board of Historical Review. He was active in the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, on the Provincial Synod level of the Episcopal Church and served as a delegate to the National Convention of the Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, a third generation Rotarian while in South Carolina, a member of the St. Andrews Society in Charleston and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lynchburg. He was also a member of the Men\"™s Central Virginia Horticulture Club and the George Bean Book Group. Above all, he was the consummate friend and counselor, blessed with a ready smile and a unique sense of humor which endeared him to multiple generations of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at St. John\"™s Episcopal Church Thursday, 0ctober 18th at 11 a.m. There will be a reception in Magill Hall following the service. A private burial will take place at St. Stephen\"™s Episcopal Church.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of the Sixth Floor of Drinkard Healthcare Center for their care and devotion during the time Mr. Fischer was a patient there. They also wish to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their care of Mr. Fischer.
