Thelma Franklin

Mary Thelma Howard Franklin, 93, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013. She was the wife of the late David Ernest Franklin, Jr. for 64 years.

Born Thursday, April 15, 1920 in Bedford County, Thelma was a daughter of the late William Calvin Howard and the late Mary Lou Overstreet Howard. Thelma was retired as a Division Manager with Sears and was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church.

Thelma is survived by her children: David Ernest Franklin, III, of Cornelius, NC, William Frederick Franklin, of Lynchburg, Mary Lou DeNoon of Lynchburg, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren with one on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her husband and her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by a son Richard Howard Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Virginia Memorial Park with Pastor Carl K. Farmer, Jr. officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends at her granddaughter\"™s residence 4 Benchmark Dr. Evington.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Odd Fellows Home 600 Elmwood Ave. Lynchburg, VA 24503.
