Thelma Templeton Haymes

Thelma B. Templeton Haymes of Lynchburg, died on October 7, 2013 after a long illness, at the Virginia Baptist Hospital.

 

She was born in Bedford County to the late Raleigh Edward and Dollie Dimple Templeton. Thelma graduated from Boonsboro High School, Allen School of Cosmetology and Saint Mary\"™s School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO. She enjoyed a career in nursing for over 30 years with Dr.\"™s David Hill, David Pugh, Earl Owen and Haynesworth.

 

Thelma enjoyed many hobbies over the years including golfing, knitting, quilting, crocheting, cooking and traveling as well as helping others.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Haymes, and three brothers; Dan, Maynard and Lawrence Templeton, and a sister, Martha Duke of Florence, SC.

 

She is survived by a brother, Melvin and his wife Barbara Templeton of Lynchburg, a god-daughter and niece, Kathie and her husband Don Carter, nieces Terry Soady & husband Reid, Susan and her husband Joey Tomlin, Mary and her husband CJ Caldwell, Renee and her husband Guy Roberts; nephews Phillip and his wife Beth Templeton, David and his wife Jeanie Templeton and Robert Templeton, as well as many great great nieces and nephews, who will all miss her very much!

 

The family wishes to greatly thank her care takers, Roberta Hargis and her loving dogs, Nikki and Roeroe (who gave lots of joy and kisses to Thelma) and Eleanor Ashwell for all the love, dedication and care they gave to her this past year. Because of these ladies, she was able to stay in the comfort of her home. They have truly been our Angels!!

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013, 11:30AM at Tharp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Stinson officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made in her honor to Boonsboro UMC, Lighthouse program for Missions, 113 Coffee Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24503 or a favorite charity.
