Thomas Edwin Vest

Thomas Edwin Vest, age 63 of Bedford, VA, formerly of Lashmeet, WV, passed away on July 5, 2014 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, in Roanoke, VA after a brief illness.
Tom graduated from Matoka High School in West Virginia. He retired after 20 years of service with the U.S. Airforce. After his retirement, he worked for Lockheed-Martin in Lubbock, TX for five years. After he left Lockheed-Martin, he returned to the mountains of Virginia at Smith Mountain Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L. Vest and Mae Belle White Vest, of Lashmeet, brothers; David Morris and William Gregory Vest, and a brother-in-law; Luther S. Ellison.
He is survived by his wife; Phyllis Sutherland Vest, the love of his life, his dog Diamond which he affectionately called pup-dog, son; Thomas Edwin Vest II of Colorado Springs, CO, sister; Delores D. (Vest) Ellison, of Troutville, VA step-daughters; Dana D. Johnson of Staunton, VA and Sonya L. Craig, of Charlottesville, VA, nephews; David M. Vest II, Richard Scott Vest and Randall Ellison, and several great nieces and nephews.
Per Tom’s request, there will be no funeral services. The family will receive friends at Phyllis and Tom’s home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
