Thomas Ford English

Thomas Ford English, Jr., 64, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his residence in Chesterfield County. He was born at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC on December 23, 1946, son of the late Thomas Ford English, Sr. and Belle Daulton English. He was the devoted husband of Karen Russell English.



Tom was a former member of the Golf Course Superintendents of America, a member and former Director of the Norfolk & Western Historical Society, and a member of Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Midlothian, VA. With the help of good friend and business partner, Adrian Cates, Tom was able to realize a personal dream and became co-owner of Chesterfield Hobbies in Midlothian, VA.



Tom proudly held a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Virginia Tech. He had been Assistant Superintendent at Greensboro County Club, as well as Superintendent at Salisbury Country Club amd Petersburg Country Club.  Tom was best known for his love of trains and his knowledge of railroads, in particular the N&W.



He is survived by wife Karen of Richmond. Tom was an only child.



A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 6, 2011 in the Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford, VA with the Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating.
