Thomas Arthur Mong, born March 4, 1944 went to be with the Lord August 27, 2024. His Christian life was characterized by kindness, dedication and love for his Savior and others, especially his family.
Born in Akron, Ohio his family moved to Lynchburg in 1956. After graduating from Virginia Tech he spent most of his years before retirement as an engineer at Framatone.
For several years he loved coaching basketball to 4th-6th grade boys on Saturday mornings and also volunteered as an EMT as part of the rescue squad.
He is survived by his wife Sandy, a son Michael Thomas (Cynthia) and a daughter Paula Hilario (Mike), grandsons Jacob Christian and Michael Grey and granddaughter Jacquiline Nicole Troyer and 4 great grandsons as well as his sisters Annie Mong, Mary Davis (Wayne), brothers Jim and Bernie.
He was an avid golfer, loved music and sang in church choirs as well as Jefferson Choral Society and was a Certified Master Gardner.
Funeral arrangements are as follows: Saturday, August 31,2024 a committal service at 11:00 a.m. at Virginia Memorial Park, Memorial Service at Rivermont Evangelical Church at 1:00 p.m.followed by visitation.
